This late 19th-century Bamileke ceremonial bed is an exceptional example of African royal furniture. Hand-carved from a single hollowed hardwood tree trunk, the bed features intricate latticework, carved faces, and stylized human figures.
In Bamileke culture, ceremonial beds were sacred spaces reserved for kings and chiefs, believed to serve as places of spiritual guidance and ancestral connection. The carved faces and figures symbolize ancestors, warriors, and protective spirits.
With its rich patina and strong sculptural presence, this piece can function as a statement artwork or a unique coffee table.
